Call it a Freudian slip. Or possibly Pavlov’s theory. Fold one arm over the other and see which arm is on top. Now, reverse your arms and put the other one on top. Feel awkward? This may seem like a silly game but it’s actually an example of a theory by psychiatrist Carl Jung.
Dr. Otto Kroeger, a nationally known organizational consultant and renowned speaker lectured to Collin County Community College students as part of their Career Week on Tuesday.
Kroeger did this test among students to show an example of Jung’s Preferences, which is his theory on functions of the personality. Take, for example, you have two separate people. One person is present-oriented, literal and looks at the facts. The other person is abstract, figurative and future-oriented. Person one is a sensing person, which means they use their senses to get information. Person number two is an intuiting person, meaning that person tends to be irrational or perceptual when getting their information. Kroeger says that about 70 percent of people rely on their senses while the other 30 percent rely on their intuition. But, Kroeger says, that doesn’t mean that a person is designated to one or the other completely.
“Everybody does both,” Kroeger said.
