You need to keep going to get that job!

A client was in touch with me, sounding disappointed that his career search seems to have fallen at the first hurdle. To find out how to get into his chosen field he needed to go and talk to people to find out alternative strategies. We developed a letter, which he sent out to 4 people but has not had a response. Too many people give up at this point.  What makes the difference is to keep going.

What I wrote to him was: “Sorry things aren’t going as well as you hoped. You need to review what you are doing and keep going! Have another look at your letter, is it personal enough, is there a win-win, i.e. is there something in it for them? So look at it again and keep going. Also join the professional association and get to go to a conference or respond to people who have written articles. Put your creative head on and see what else you could do”.
