Art Graduates - do you want a corporate job?
I’ve recently read that arts students have lower career expectations and are less likely to apply to graduate recruitment schemes than those doing vocational subjects (research from market research company: High Flyers). I’m wondering, is this because they don’t seek to work in a corporate environment or is it that they don’t think they will be successful and are applying elsewhere. All degrees have transferable skills and when I’m undertaking graduate recruitment, it is performance on the day at the assessment centre that is the key decider. Yes at interview you need to be able to sell yourself well, and to give clear examples, but I’ve interviewed a number of science graduates who find it very difficult to articulate their thoughts, not usually a problem with e.g. English graduates!
I’d be really interested to hear what arts students and graduates think of this. Â
