In India - more people are becoming social workers

On my holiday in India, I regularly read the Times of India. There were some very interesting articles, including one called: Hip enough to be a social worker.

It explained that in the last few years, they has been an increase in the number of well qualified young people joining the social work sector. With high academic credentials they could work in a large multi national company but instead have chosen a job which gives more personal fulfilment.  The examples quoted spoke of money not being their main driver for success and to want to do work where they gain deep satisfaction.

Bishnupriya Dasgupta, lecturer in family resource management at Mumbai’s SNDT Women’s University points out: “Today there are more opportunities for people to do something for society compared to earlier times, And thanks to the double income families and financially secure senior citizens, people have the luxury of following their dreams.
