Career coaching stories - demotivated to get a job

I worked with Wendy last autumn. She went through my in-depth gold programme and after 7 hours of time working together plus the time she had spent on taking assessments, reflection and research we had a plan. She had a shortlist of 3 jobs that suited her and should have been in a new job by now.

So what happened, and why did she come back to see me 9 months later? My website has many examples of clients who followed the steps – identified the job, did the informational interview route and started applying and eventually gained the job they wanted.

Occasionally I get clients like Wendy and, in her case she got cold feet. Finally getting the job she deserved would make her feel too grown up, she would no longer be able to take time out for extended periods of travel and would have to commit to regular work.

We met up and in a coaching session looked at the reasons she was holding back, and did some work visioning the future. She left feeling a lot more committed and with a plan for what to do next. This time she is going to be in touch weekly to keep her on track and to address any set backs that might occur promptly.
