Where to find a new job

When I meet a new client who is unhappy in their work I talk to them about alternatives.

They could stay in the same role in a different, but similar organisation or a same role with more responsibility.  Alternatively this could be the same role in a different industry sector, a new job in the same company or a new job in a new company.

When clients are unsatisfied in their job they often fail to consider looking for an alternative job within their company.  It’s sometimes a light bulb moment when I suggest looking this and sometimes great things happen.  Last week I spoke with Andy who had lost motivation for his work in IT. In a one hour session we considered a number of alternatives to play to his strengths and his passions. Alongside talking to people to find out more about opportunities I also suggested he find out more about options within his company.

Today he has been in touch and his email said: “I know one of your suggestions was to seek other work within the company, I just didn’t expect things to happen so quickly!  … One of the key motivations for me is that there seems to be a lot more focus on the new  work and the team I am in will be ‘under new management’.  Added to that, there will be more (residential) training which will certainly beef up my skills fairly impressively.”

I’d like to thank you for listening to me last week and kick-starting me on a new path.  It’s amazing what happens when you stir the pot!

If you are unhappy at work, why not see what else may be available – you might get a pleasant surprise, like Andy did!
