Career management tip: If you want feedback - Ask!

Some people know whether they have done a good or a bad job - they make amendments if necessary and feel satisfied with a job well done; however, some of us like to get external confirmation that we are doing ok.

We may strike lucky and work with and for someone who gives us clear feedback that is specific and helpful. However we may be working for someone who doesn’t need feedback and so doesn’t think that this is something that other people will need.  If this is the case then you may need to ask for feedback.

There is nothing wrong in doing this, and it also helps to develop our manager.

Remember though that they might need help in giving clear feedback so make sure that you are specific. If you are vague in your request, then the person you seek feedback from is likely to be vague in reply.
