Unhappy at work? Ways to be positive

This week I’ve worked with 3 people who are very unhappy in their work and a student who has realised he is on the wrong course. When we feel like this we are bound to feel down and depressed, and the more we think about what we hate about our jobs, the more we feel unhappy. What I’ve suggested to them all is that at points in the day – at least lunch time and late afternoon, they review what they have done and make a note of things that have gone well.  This could include things such as:

·      I didn’t “bite” when my boss was dismissive of my ideas

·      I helped a colleague with a rush job

·      I paid a compliment and meant it

·      I learnt how to use a new piece of software which will look good on my CV

Obviously I’m going to help them find what they do want to do, a job that will give them career satisfaction but this should keep life more bearable till they move.

You might like to start making notes of positive points about your day?  Have a go and let me know how you get on
