Career coaching - applying for a job online

When we post our CV online it makes it easy for a potential employer to search for what they are looking for. We need to adapt our CV to the ones we use when we email or post it to someone as software will search for keywords.

If you are applying for marketing jobs in the USA one of the sites you may use is Marketing Ladder. They publish a list of the top 100 words that recruiters search under.

The top 6 being: Sales, CPA, Controller, Marketing, Human Resources and Tax and you can access the full list here:

The key point to say is that you MUST fill in as many of the relevant key words as possible in your CV and this can include having a section headed keywords so you can list them there. If you don’t include the keywords that recruiters are looking for then your CV won’t get picked up so you won’t get a chance to be considered.

Why not think about the jobs you are applying for and identify the key words.  You can then review your CV and make sure it is an effective marketing tool for you.

If you find a list of the top words recruiters se in your industry, let me know and I can share it with others.
