Career advice when on maternity leave and wanting something different
Today i’ve had an enquiry from a professional female who is currently on maternity leave.
She explained about with the birth of her second child she no longer wants to give her all to the job.
I said that I work with many people who want to take stock, clarify where their strengths lie and make the right decisions for them, to suit their particular life. Career planning must take account of your personal life as well, so a decision that gives you the time with your children is one that will give you greater personal satisfaction.
There are many options when people make a change of career - something else in the same company, similar job with a different company, or something different all together.
When people want to take a big change there is a lot to consider, and that’s why I developed The Gold Career Programme. You can read more, incuding downloading a leaflet from my web site: http://www.amazingpeople.co.uk/the_gold_career_programme.htm
The leaflet can be used as a menu, reading about the different options I can include and then we can talk about what would be right for you. Many clients find the assessments very powerful especially. when all 3 are combined together and we look for the overlap.
I always want to work within a persons budget and another popular option is to take the Highlands Ability Battery with another hour of coaching and then to review and see what additional help you may need.
Everything can be undertaken by phone, or you could combine some face to face and phone coaching. I make extensive use of email to stay in touch and this is often the easiest way to address short enquiries as I am often working with clients during the day. My clients travel from all over the country, including London, Essex, Cornwall, Germany and Sweden. I’ve also worked extensively with many who I never meet face to face. If someone is coming to spend about half a day with me I set aside the day from around 10.30 so that you wouldn’t feel rushed if you happened to have been delayed with your transport arrangements.
It’s not just with helping people to make a career decision that I focus my time but also with job search and I’m used as a consultant for interviews and assessment centre assessing in a range of companies.
You also asked about client feedback - lots on my website, including links so you can read actual letters and feedback forms. http://www.amazingpeople.co.uk/clientssay.htm The first section is in alphabetical order and you might like to read what Marian said, she is a high flying working mum.
