Job Search Support

There are many ways I help clients in their job search.

Many people need support with motivation and I liken it to a dieter going to weight watchers, knowing you are going to be weighed each week will encourage pople to cut back on food and increase the exercise so they get a loss on the scales.

With job search, sometimes people plan to apply for jobs but other things get in the way and they just don’t get started so it can help to have someone supporting and encouraging them on a regular basis.

One element of the work I do is reviewing job applications. I have seen so many applications and covering letter in my time, I used to get boxes sent to me when I first started doing consultancy and I would have to shortlist objectively and accurately. This helps now with my clients.

Yesterday I worked with Elaine, who was applying for a senior management role. Her 1 page covering letter only needed some minor tidying up if you looked at it in isolation, but once I carefully read through the job and person spec I could see there was much more need for change.

If certain things are essential for the job that it is also essential that you provide evidence for how you match up - to unpick the specifics and provide a paragraph on each.

The first time I work with a client it can be quite a big job, I’ve spent over 90 minute son this one, but the next application Elaine does should be much quicker as my clients understand what to do and have the confidence to do it themselves.
