Men bear the brunt of job losses

The economic crisis is sweeping away men’s jobs at a faster rate than those of women. That’s why it is being called ‘mancession’.

In the US unemployment is at 9.4% but there is now a difference between the sexes with male unemployment at 10.5% with female unemployment at 8%. This is partly due to the increasing number of blue collar jobs, such as manufacturing and construction being lost which are predominately male. This is leading to swapping of roles with more men taking on the household and family chores.
