Career in science, engineering or technology

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

I’ve recently come across a web site with some really great resources if you are a woman who seeks to gain a career in science, engineering or technology.

http://www.setwomenresource.org.uk

There looks like plenty of information to help women make the move, including job sites and details on short courses. If you visit this site I would be very interested to hear what you think of it, so do let me know.

Internet Detective – using online research effectively to help in your career development

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

Slightly off topic today, but via the many emails I get was one which leads on to a web site which is simply brilliant if you are using the internet for academic research. This may be for you if you undertake part time study or perhaps for a relative or friend. When I work with students to help them to develop study skills many have never been shown how to research effectively and how to make good use of on line study sources.

This takes you to the Internet Detective and is an online tutorial to help people to develop internet skills to help with study and research. It takes an hour to complete and should be really useful, I’ll be recommending it to my student clients.

Do have a look and let me know what you think.

The apprentice, in lego

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

In my local paper, there was a news entry about some local guys who have set up a site creating short clips out of lego based on the apprentice. If you want a look here is the link:

Fun! - what celebrity do you look like

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I read about this website where you can upload your ohoto and they will tell you which celebrity you look like - The article said that David Miliband had a 63% match for Rupert Grint. I’ve just done this and i’m a 68% match for Robert Downey Junior.

I know this is nothing to do with careers, but there is a tenuous link to assessments and I thought it fun!

Helping Street Children - LADLI

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

I was in India over Christmas and into New Year. This was  a holiday found via www.responsibletourism.com and I travelled with Intrepid Travel. The holiday was amazing and one of the aspects of the trip I loved was that we visited a local voluntary organisation - Ladli. This is a vocational training centre for abused, orphaned and destitute girls. They give them the skills of jewellery making plus provide an education including teaching them English.   We thought this was a great venture and donated enough money to look after a street child for a year.

Ladli is going to be my charity for 2007 and I will be donating 5% of all my services and eBooks to this charity. If you are interested in this organisation you can read more here:
