Support the Chagos Islanders (Diego-Garcia)

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

I’d forgotten about the Chagossians, now I’ve been reminded I have signed the petition – will you do as well?

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Diego-Garcia/

40 years ago 2000 Chagossians were loaded on to boats, had their homes burnt & livestock killed by the UK Government to make way for the UK to lease an island in the vicinity to the US for a base, Diego Garcia. The UK government then dumped them on the quay of Port Louis in Mauritius and then went to the UN and said there was no problem as the islands were uninhabited.

Although they won the right of return in the UK courts in 2000, the UK government tried to get round that ruling by the use of Orders In Council – an archaic procedure that lets the government act without Parliamentary oversight. That was overturned in the appeal court but eventually last year the House Of Lords, probably pushed by the UK government, ruled against the Chagossians’ right of return.

If you agree they should be allowed to return do sign the petition

Deadline to sign up by: 23 September 2009 – Signatures: 823 (as I subscribed)

A long weekend, hope you did something great

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Working for myself it’s very tempting to just work, that’s one of the reasons why I go to festivals, it gets me away from my computer and allows me to follow my passion music and dance.

No festivals this weekend, but still plenty of music in our house. Listening to Orbital and the Prodigy, who are headlining at Rockness, and some new progressive house tracks for my DJ sets. With a party coming up I want to get some really great tracks together.

Last week i spoke to two clients with very different lifes and both full of regrets.

One is in his 50s and has no hobbies because all he ever did was work …

The other is in his late 30s and loved to travel and scuba dive. Whilst this sounds like a fun existance he too has regrets, that he has no home, little money and no career.

Both are working for different reasons, and I’ll be helping both get the right sort of balance in their life.  I’m also making sure I get to do more than just work.

Let’s hope you had a great weekend and did some fun things too!

The career coach gets DJ equipment – Pioneer CDJ 400 decks and more!

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Did you have a good weekend?

Running my own business I’ll often spend Saturday with clients and the rest of the weekend doing admin tasks, writing short articles and staying in touch with clients. I enjoy it, but its not a break, hence i like to get away at weekends, it does me good to be away from my computer.

This weekend has been different.

If you read my newsletter last week you will have read how I’ve been looking into buying DJ decks etc. I’ve now done it. For those who are interested I’ve bought 2 x Pioneer CDJ 400 decks, a Numark MBX06 mixer, speakers and DJ head phones. The system is set up and I’m playing to get to understand the equipment.

It’s been such fun, and I hardly spent any time at my computer this weekend.

I’m lucky I REALLY love my job, but not every one does, so it’s important that we have something else to look forward to?

How happy are you in your career? If it’s less than 70% you may well be looking for a new job, but having a passion outside of work can help make you more satisfied with life.

Let me know what you do?
