Your Job - Helping you to love your job or to find a job you do love
|
May 2009
I'm back on schedule and wishing you a very happy early May, hoping you enjoyed the weekend. The sun has shined but it hasn't been overly warm, but I found it just right, when I went for a walk in the country.
It's been a manic couple of weeks - coming back from holiday, getting on with marketing my book and also getting on with completing my second book. Just got the comments back from my editor so getting on with more revisions, I should be getting good at this.
A big welcome to the 39 people who subscribed in April, my subscriber total is now 1758 and I'm very pleased to have you all here. I hope this newsletter is of interest and if there is something specific you would like me to write about please do let me know.

Featured service: Virtual job search club |
Helping people in their job search
I've plans for setting up a job search club in Tewkesbury, working with people on a weekly basis but also think I could really help people on a virtual basis.
If you are seeking a new job would you be interested in a weekly group call? We could also include membership of a discussion forum.
The benefits to you - work through all the steps towards finding a new job - creating your CV, creating a personal commercial, fact finding interviews, different ways to get a job, the hidden job market, interviews, assessment centre's, and more.
Probably the most important element will be the ongoing motivation - the benefits with working with other people in a similar position to encourage and support, keeping each other motivated and also having the benefit of my leadership.
I'll be working up details over the next week or so - if this is of interest let me know and i'll keep you informed.

Order the book and get all the forms included in the book as a downloadable PDF for free, You just need to forward me your Amazon receipt. The eWorkBook is sold for £5 on my web site. The workbook means you don’t need to write in your book, and you can print out as many copies of each form as you need.
Review of the book:
Denise has produced this timely work book that hits the nail on the head in terms of a mix of practical advice and exercises.
As an occupational psychologist specialising in careers, she has the qualifications and experience to be able to offer excellent advice and guidance. She provides us with a practical 28 day programme which is relevant whether you are looking to enter the job market for the first time, changing careers or have been made redundant. Not only does she address the emotional side of job hunting but also the practical areas such as writing CV's, finding jobs and attending interviews. She provides innovative suggestions for ways for finding jobs and does not simply abandon us when the job is secured but holds our hands in providing suggestions as to handle the first 90 days of the job.
I would (and have) recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a new role or values their working life.

Which professionals are hitting the dole queue
In The Times Magazine last week there was a visual portrayal of which professionals are hitting the dole queue. They have compared the number claiming this year compared with in 2008.
The number of Architects claiming job seekers allowance has grown by 730%; Solicitors/lawyers/judges and coroners up by 316%, Chartered Accountants by 142%, Vets by 200% and Archivists and Curators by 79%.
I wondered where bankers were on the list but that’s probably because they are unlikely to seek to claim the £65 per week of job seekers allowance.
Job Centre Plus are meant to be changing to deal better with unemployed professionals, the feedback I have been getting was that little help was available and it was assumed that if you were a professional you would know how to get a job, but people from all backgrounds benefit from help, support and guidance.
