An approach built on flexibility. Some people need to take a counselling approach, to discuss a situation in depth. Others want to move forward, through coaching and activity, and some people are seeking guidance and want an objective assessment for what to do next. You can take either approach or a combination. Whilst I have a number of programmes, based on years of experience, what we would do is only finalised after we talk.

Whilst some clients go ahead and sign up without talking with me, I do encourage you to call or email. It's important that we have rapport and will work well together.

Expert Knowledge
Anybody can call themselves a career coach, some people base their expertise on their own job search, or have attended a one day course. As a Chartered Occupational Psychologist this is one of my two areas of specialism, alongside Assessments. I have worked as a career counsellor/ coach for over 20 years, and you can read all my relevant qualifications from the about Denise page.

Few career coaches can help with job search. My expertise is based on work as an outplacement counsellor with 3 of the largest outplacement companies, one where I was only paid on results. I also design assessment centres, train interviewers and assessors, and regularly undertake recruitment assignments. All of this is to ensure that you have the benefit of the inside story and can receive up to the minute, helpful feedback. I have an in-depth knowledge on a wide range of industries and professions, so I know what companies are looking for, and can help you to understand how well you match up.

Holistic approach
Your career is part of your life, and other people and factors may also influence your choices. For this reason you have to take a broad view. To make effective career decisions you need to take a full view on your life, as it is the combination of your interests, values, abilities, personality etc that will help you to make the best choice.

Assessments, exercises, creative discussions and career counselling and career coaching sessions are offered to assist you in this approach. You may feel you have sufficient understanding in some areas, in which case we can move quickly on but you do have the option to take a full analysis to ensure that you make decisions based on as much information as possible.

Reputable assessments
There are numerous assessments on offer, many are all glitz and no substance, and are not properly validated. Just because a well known organisation uses them, this is no evidence for their effectiveness. Working with a Chartered Occupational Psychologist you will have certified expertise and access to a wide range of assessments. You will receive the very best available assessments administered by someone who has undertaken advanced training. Your results will be added to the wider picture gained through our discussion which will give you the greatest benefit.
