The Saville Consulting Wave is a personality questionnaire which is quickly becoming the assessment of choice in recruitment and personal development.
As a chartered psychologist I'm qualified to use all of the reputable assessments and this is the one I now recommend to my business clients and it is great for an in-depth personal assessment, particularly to help you understand yourself before an in-depth interview.
It was developed by Professor Peter Saville who was the originator of SHL’s OPQ ®. The assessment can assess talent and motive and the results can be compared to organisational competences.
The self report assessment takes approximately 35 minutes to complete. You then receive an in-depth discussion alongside a Professional Styles Report. There is an option for two additional reports – Types Report and Entrepreneurial Potential Report.
This breaks your results down into 4 major clusters – Thought, Influence, Adaptability and Delivery.
Thought comprises
- Vision – Inventive, Abstract, Strategic
- Judgement – Insightful, Practically Minded, Learning Orientated
- Evaluation – Analytical, Factual, Rational
Influence comprises
- Leadership – Purposeful, Directing, Empowering
- Impact – Convincing, Challenging, Articulate
- Communication - Self promoting, Interactive, Engaging
Adaptability comprises
- Support – Involving, Attentive, Accepting
- Resilience - Resolving, Self-assured, Composed
- Flexibility – Receptive, Positive, Change Orientated
Delivery comprises
- Structure - Organised, Principled, Activity Orientated
- Drive – Dynamic, Striving, Enterprising
- Implementation – Meticulous, Reliable, Compliant
The results are discussed in a 90 minute feedback discussion to really enable you to understand yourself and to create a development plan for action. When used in recruitment the results from the feedback discussion will be incorporated into the “wash up” discussion following the interview and other exercises.
As an individual when you purchase the Wave assessment you also get a personal full colour copy of the Professional Styles report.
Optional Report – Types Report
You also have the option of purchasing the Types Report – this will outline the typical approach taken at work, based on the results of the Saville Consulting Wave Professional Styles questionnaire.
First of all it considers the People elements of your results and compares adaptability and Influence.
People can be divided into 4 different groups:
- Individualists - who are task rather than people focused
- Adaptors – who are supportive, resilient and flexible in response to change
- Influencers – who excel at communicating their message
- Transformers – who combine interpersonal sensitivity with powerful social networks
The task elements of your results are then considered, comparing Thought with Delivery and again your results show you in one of 4 categories:
- Preserver – who adopt conventional approaches to their work
- Thinker – who get straight to the core of a problem to find solutions
- Doer – who approach their work with dynamism and conscientiousness
- Transactor – who combine thoughtful analysis with the driven pursuit of goals
You then have the results combined to consider your leadership style, team and peer interaction, managing change and cultural synergies and maximising potential.
You can access a sample copy of the Types Report here.
Optional Report – Entrepreneurial Potential Report
This report is based on the entrecode model of successful entrepreneurs.
It covers 6 areas
- Getting in the zone
- Seeing possibilities
- Creating superior opportunities
- Staying in the zone
- Opening up to the world
- Building capability
You can access a sample copy of the Entrepreneurial Potential Report here.
The results can then be discussed to enable you to fully understand your strengths and development areas in your role as entrepreneur.
