Pre-University

Choosing career coaching before making a choice on what to do after A levels/ BTEC is a great decision.

This means that you will have taken an objective assessment of what you like and dislike, your thoughts for the future and how to get the best from the next few years.

Work with Denise to understand who you are; what you can offer and make well thought through decisions.

The work we do can help you to choose:
• A levels
• Degree subject
• Specialism (e.g. for doctors and scientists)
• Career

It now costs thousands of pounds to go to University, and students leave with a significant debt. It’s important that this money isn’t wasted. Make sure that the degree will be a step towards your future. If you are uncertain better to wait and decide what you want to do and why, rather than rush to university.

Parents are often reassured that career options are considered in a structured way with an independent chartered psychologist who is noted as a caring and inspiring expert.

QUOTES

Rebecca says: "From the very first session with Denise I felt so relaxed in her company. I felt really comfortable to open up and be honest about myself, and I loved how every session I felt like I was going to see a friend rather than a coach" Read more

Student says: “It is a journey of discovery; you make many fascinating realisations about yourself along the way. The knowledge you acquire will benefit you for the rest of your life. As for me I have found the programme invaluable in making decisions about my future degree course at university.” Rebecca Crowther

Parent says: “It was difficult for myself as a parent to be able to confidently advise and guide my daughter in her post A level education. She was a good all rounder and had absolutely no idea what she wanted to do. It was such a relief to discover Denise who is such a knowledgeable and caring career expert. I am now confident that Rebecca is moving in the right direction.” Carol Crowther

Parents say: "We had our 17 year old daughter take the programme when she was unfocused and unhappy. The results have given her and us a better appreciation of her abilities and personality. This has improved her self esteem and an understanding of the need to nurture some of what we'd previously neglected, especially her artistic inclinations." Father of 17 year old Fiona

Parents say: "It made sense of why school can be so frustrating to him. It doesn't challenge his driving abilities and requires him to listen to lectures and take notes which are weak areas. This has helped us think about how to make school more successful and to discuss these results with his teachers. Father of 16 year old Tom

Tom had absolutely no idea what to do at University. He was bright and definitely wanted to take a degree, but wasn't sure what subject. The student programme showed he had excellent abilities in 2D and 3D interpretation, which suggests roles such as engineer, design and architecture. He is also highly outgoing and sociable, needing a role with a high level of interaction with others. He took this programme just before he chose his A levels to make sure he didn't drop a subject that would be required in his chosen degree. To be certain he is making the right choice he is undertaking some structured work experience in his school holidays to help make a final choice.

Hilary was the youngest of 3 and the first child to think about a graduate career. Her grandmother wanted to support Hilary in making the right decision and paid for this programme. It led from an initial decision to take media studies to structured work placements over summer vacations prior to University, based on the results of the assessments. Hilary will be happiest where she can work with others in a structured environment and gain an area of expertise. Her decision to become a Radiologist matched in with her personality and abilities.

QUOTES

Recent Graduate says: “Still unsure of the route to pursue, a year after graduation, I considered previous careers guidance limited and confusing. Denise was a breath of fresh air. She offers a very personal and unique programme, which is far more than standard careers advice. It enabled me to explore personal strengths, to gain a clear understanding of the way in which I interact with others and to discover the most appropriate working environment for me.” Naomi Durston

Parent says: “This programme has given my daughter a much clearer insight into the way in which she works and a deeper understanding of the working environment to which she is best suited.” David Durston

Parents say: “Thank you very much for your work with Simon. He seems to be really carefully thinking out his future and is much better for it. From phone calls he is much more cheerful and at ease which is great. He is looking forward to his further sessions so clearly things are working.” Jan and Ken, Cheshire

Recent Graduate says "I thoroughly enjoyed the process and look forward to cracking on with the rest of the work to find my ideal job/career". Toby, Berkshire

Dan decided he wanted to work in accountancy after University, but was unable to get accepted on any intern programme. Whilst the initial enquiry was around interview practice, through discussion this was a job he was being encouraged to do by others. It was not where his natural passion and abilities lay. This programme enabled him to be open about his future with his family, which was not to follow the family tradition of accountancy but to explore more creative work – he successfully gained a summer placement with a marketing company, and is continuing to explore options in creative fields.

Sarah trained as a teacher. She chose the role as she didn't know what she wanted to do, and assumed her post graduate certificate in education (PGCE) would provide her with a career path. Unfortunately it wasn't the right one for her. This programme suggested a number of alternatives, including a sales role, utilising both interests and abilities. This is something she would never have considered before. As an interim step she is now selling educational materials but intends to move into more tangible goods, like cars as she develops her sales skills.

“I have been impressed by the whole service! The high standards continued during the meeting. The relaxed atmosphere helped me focus in a difficult subject. Having the conversation taped allowed me to relax and not worry about making notes. Email communication has been good, with fast responses to my questions.”   - Will A.

Sometimes I get incredibly moved by feedback I receive from clients. I recently worked with a young man who had yet to find the right career path for himself and whose self esteem was dropping as he didn’t think he could do anything. Taking the Highlands Assessment has proved very powerful for him.  He says: “I am writing to you to thank you for sparing your time just to help me. I want you to know that I am forever grateful for all your help.  I found it really helpful because you opened my eyes and showed me something I never knew about myself.”  He is now set to start a level 3 course in music engineering.
