So many companies are laying off staff, and hundreds of people applying for each job. Maybe now is the time to look for a job at a start up?

If you have worked for a larger, more conventional company you may find the recruitment process is less formalised and more attention is paid to relationships. You will need to demonstrate your flexibility, as with less staff you will have a broader role, aand you may need to work longer hours. You also want to demonstrate your ability to adapt from a larger firm.

As with any application and interview, do your research and make sure that you are clear why you want the job and why you are a good fit. The founder will be passionate about their business so demonstrate some passion for the product/ service too.

You can get ready for this, and other applications by demonstrating your worth through sharing articles and creating updates that show how you can solve problems and your interest in new products.

You also need to do some due diligence, research the founders background to see if you can identify if the founder has the skills and background to make this a success.
