My 7th book – Getting The Job You Want  has recently been published. Getting the Job you want – the new book from Denise Taylor I was asked to write this book for the iconic series of books from Icon Book – Introducing. These books are short and full of practical guidance. I really like this book and I’m sure you will find it helpful even if you have one or more of my other books.
Being asked to write Getting The Job You Want, a book which is half the size of How To Get A Job In A Recession was more challenging than I first thought.  I couldn’t use that book and cut out text.
Instead I started afresh. I thought about what was essential for people to know. I also thought a different style would be more helpful so this is written in a very succinct and an even more chatty style.
I was encouraged to pull out key points – Remember this with key points such as

‘ You  must undertake comprehensive research in advance, so your questions will focus on what you can’t find online rather than waste an opportunity with basic level questions’
This is in the section on fact finding interviews.
“Networking on LinkedIn – earlier i suggested you identify some groups to join, but joining is not enough; you need to be an active participant. Raise your profile by answering questions. Or share information by posting links to articles with a reason why others should read them.
‘A bland generic CV is unlikely to meet the demands of any job’
You must know this, but so many people want to keep their CVs open.

The book also has case studies and includes many different useful tips.
Icon books sells books all over the world, and you will probably find the book in a book store as they often have a rotating display stand.  So far it doesn’t look like I’ve made any sales on Amazon, and I don’t have any reviews. 🙁
So I’d like to encourage you to buy this on Amazon, and I’ve checked and it’s reduced from £6.99 to £5,24.
Email me the receipt and I’ll send you something useful, I haven’t decided yet but I’m thinking of a relevant and encouraging podcast with an accompanying PDF of notes to support the information within the book.
The chapters in the book are

  1. Introduction
  2. Be clear on your goal, a linked blog post, Be clear on your goal
  3. Understand your target using research
  4. Networking
  5. Fact finding interviews
  6. The CV
  7. Getting ready for your job search – a linked blog post: Job Search, are you motivated
  8. Creating your message – the pitch
  9. LinkedIn
  10. Making applications
  11. Cover letters
  12. Hidden job market
  13. Interview preparation
  14. The Interview
  15. Phone and Skype interviews, I’ve written a linked blog post on this
  16. Staying motivated
  17. The job offer

I’m sure you will find this book helpful. I’d love to hear how you found it,
Have a great week.
