Hi, it’s Dr. Denise, and I wonder if you are one of those people who are not really happy in your job.

You know you want to have something else, but you just don’t know what it is that you should do.  You could be like many of the younger people I work with who studied law or medicine or accountancy and you did it for the wrong reasons. You did it because your parents said it was a good, safe job to go into.  Or it doesn’t really matter what you did. You hadn’t really given any thought to the sort of job you should do.

You may be in the early stages of your career and have not really sorted it all out.

Or you may be in later life and realize that for 10, 20 or more years, you’ve just been totally unhappy and felt …  “well, you’ve made your bed, you’ve got to lie in it” and you are counting off the years to retirement. But that’s a long way off.

How are you going to make choices as to what it is that you want to do?  It’s really hard if you just send your CV out because people are just going to see what you’ve done before and expect you to do more of the same.

And don’t expect a recruiter to help you because you’re just a commodity to them. They’re only really interested in you if they can put you into a job and will often talk you into something you don’t actually want to do.

You can do all sorts of free tests online, sometimes they are a bit sneaky, and want to charge you for a proper report later, which they don’t tell you about to begin with.

But self-report is self-report, and you can have a bit of a false idea about how good you are at something.

So many people think they’re good at things that they’re really not, or the other way around.  What really works is to do an ability battery, like the Highlands Ability Battery.

The Highlands Ability Battery

The highlands ability battery is far more than a psychometric assessment. It’s a way of really understanding yourself in a way that you really can’t access in any other way.

It includes 19 timed work samples, and you can’t cheat because the clock starts and then the clock ends. You can complete an example in advance to make sure you understand what it is that you need to do.

From this three-hour assessment, that doesn’t have to be taken all in one go, you get to find out where your natural abilities lay. What are the things that come really easy to you?

Isn’t it better to be doing work where things come easy, rather than to pushing yourself into things that don’t.

If you take this assessment, you find out much more about your answers and what the results mean.

It also gives you a list of jobs in sections, all related to your natural abilities. This then gives you, a much better framework to start exploring different things, because on the list will be jobs that don’t interest you, so you can cross them off.

Given there is a hyperlink that takes you to every single job, it’s really easy just to do a quick two- or three-minute review. And make sure that the job is what you thought it was going to be.

You don’t just get the report, you get up to a two-hour discussion with me.

The people that I’ve worked with, and I’ve worked with hundreds and hundreds, probably up to a thousand people doing this, and it is life changing.

They’ve got confidence to make a change that they hadn’t got before. It’s given them ideas that they would never have thought about. 

I wanted to do an up-to-date video of me talking about this assessment, and look back on YouTube and you can see them over the years, how I’ve aged, how my hair’s changed, etc.

Honest to goodness, it’s such a good assessment. I’m a chartered psychologist. I’m a doctor of psychology I wouldn’t put my name or recommend things that I don’t think are good and worth doing.

I’ve always done the feedback as a one-to-one session.  But, if I got four people saying that they’d be interested in a group feedback session, I’m happy to do that at a discount.

That’s why I’ve done this video, which is going out to all my newsletter subscribers. And I’ll see if in the next two weeks, I’ve got at least four people that say they want to have a group programme, then it will go ahead.

You will all take the assessment individually, get your own report, but we cover it, in a group situation.
