The Apprentice is back – and I love it! So many examples of what not to do. In this weeks episode, how not to work as a team – too many people wanting to do their own thing and not paying attention to the team leader. Then there’s the blaming – always looking for someone else to blame for mistakes.

I love the introductions – one woman said that “I’m the best sales person in Europe” well if she was, would she really be seeking a job on 100k? and there’s lots of putting down other people – maybe this is what you have to say to get on the show. We all know that these are not the best business people about, but the people who will make the best TV.

In this episode they had to sell fish, but th boys team had no idea on what price to sell things at, but there was a wholesale price list and they had phones so they could cal around. They ended up selling fish below the wholesale price, not a good tactic.

The Apprentice candidates also don’t want to take the blame – but one of the best things you can do is to take responsibility for your failings and be clear what you would do differently next time.

Lessons for us?

  • To be a team player and work well with others rather than trying to put people down
  • To be clear on what you did and why
  • To be able to review your performance and say what you would do differently next time
  • To take time at the start of the task to plan
